The Quiet Canadians: A morning on set & High-Stakes Casino Fun

Hello Reader,

We’ve been in production mode recently, and we wanted to give you an inside look at what our day really looks like when we’re working on set—or "a day at the office" (with a lot more gear).

Plus, we’ve got two major updates to share:

  • Our pre-title sequence fundraising campaign for The Quiet Canadians is officially live!
  • We have updates on our work with the Kelty Foundation for their upcoming High Stakes Casino Night—and yes, we are still looking for sponsors!

But first, here’s a no-frills breakdown of a typical day on set. If you’ve ever wondered what really happens before the Director calls that first “Action,” here’s the scoop:

A Morning on Set – What It Really Looks Like

0600 – Location Prep and Crew Arrivals

  • The Location Team’s been here since before sunrise, setting up and prepping the space for the day’s work. The generators have been running since 6 a.m., providing power to everything from lights to trailers.
  • Catering has rolled in and set up breakfast. Trust us, keeping everyone fed is key to a productive day on set.
  • By now, our Hair and Makeup Team is working on getting the cast ready.

0700 – Crew Call

  • The Assistant Directors (ADs) and the Heads of Departments gather the full crew to go over the day’s work. Everyone gets a call sheet with the schedule and details, so no one has an excuse to ask what’s happening next.

0730 – Blocking the Scene

  • The Director and AD work with the actors to map out the movement for the scene. This is where we figure out how everyone moves through the space. The actors get their directions, and the camera operators start working out their shots.

0800 – Lighting and Camera Setups

  • Once blocking’s done, the actors head back to wardrobe or makeup to finish up their processing.
  • Meanwhile, the crew starts setting up lights and camera equipment. This can take an hour or more, depending on the complexity of the scene.
  • We also rehearse any camera moves, stunts, or special effects (aka “gags”).
  • The crew practices all the technical aspects so that when the actors return, we’re ready to roll.

0900 – First Shot

  • With all the prep done, we’re ready to film. If all goes well, the first shot gets captured, and we’re off to the races for the rest of the day.

That’s the morning grind on set. It’s more construction site than Universal Studios-tour, but hey, that’s what makes the magic (no, we don’t actually use that word on set).

Now, let’s talk about what’s on the horizon for us.

Support Our Pre-Title Sequence for The Quiet Canadians

We’re working to film a sequence of the movie in the early part of 2025. This sequence is important, as it’s the opening pre-title sequence that sets the tone for the entire movie. This is similar to the thrilling opening sequence of a James Bond film that pulls you right in.

Yes, you are reading that correctly! We're going to get started making The Quiet Canadians early. Just like we did with 13 Miles, we believe the best way to make the movie is to just get started with what we can film, while fundraising and the rest of the movie continue to be developed.

For this, we'll need to:

  • Scout and book a location. Specifically, we're looking for a mansion with a large study/office.
  • Cast two characters for the sequence. One of whom will be our lead actor.
  • Bring on some "extras" (background actors) to play guards.
  • Rent props, costumes, set dec, and some prop weapons.
  • Hire crew.
  • Feed crew :).

To support this phase of our filming, we are announcing the launch of our fundraising campaign for the pre-title sequence of The Quiet Canadians.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will directly help us bring this scene to life. And as a thank you, anyone who donates over $100 will get a special credit: “This Teaser Made Possible By (your name).”

Join Us at the Kelty Foundation’s High Stakes Casino Night

We are proud to be part of the Kelty Foundation’s High Stakes Casino Night on November 27th, and we’d love to see you there! It’s a night of fun, and it’s all for a great cause—raising funds for mental health services in British Columbia.

Half the tickets are already sold, but we’re still looking for sponsors for the live and silent auctions. If you or your company is interested in supporting a great cause and getting your name in front of a fantastic audience, take a look at our sponsorship opportunities.

This event means a lot to us, as it brings together community, entertainment, and support for an incredible cause. Plus, it’s an amazing opportunity to give back while enjoying a memorable evening.

Keep an eye out for a live stunt show that we are choreographing as part of the night's entertainment.

We’d love for you to join us in bringing The Quiet Canadians to life and supporting the important work of the Kelty Foundation. Whether it’s backing our pre-title sequence or attending the Casino Night, your involvement makes a huge difference.

Thanks for reading and for always being part of this journey with us.

Cheers,

Anthony & Helena
