How My Fraternity, Kappa Sigma, Prepared Me for Independent Filmmaking
When people think of fraternities, they often picture social events and lifelong friendships—and while that’s true, my time in a fraternity gave me something even more valuable: soft skills and an entrepreneurial mindset that directly shape my work as an independent movie producer. Leading and collaborating with a diverse group of people taught me conflict resolution, team-building, and the ability to rally others around a shared vision. Whether it was planning events or navigating challenges as a group, I learned how to communicate effectively, inspire action, and delegate responsibility. These are the same skills I now rely on to manage crews, attract investors, and guide creative projects from idea to completion. More importantly, my fraternity, Kappa Sigma, introduced me to the power of community and relationships. In both filmmaking and fraternity life, success comes down to the connections you build and the trust you foster. Lastly, my entrepreneurial drive was sparked by running budgets, negotiating sponsorships, and problem-solving on tight deadlines. Producing a film isn’t all that different—you’re constantly finding creative solutions and selling a vision to bring ideas to life. Joining a fraternity didn’t just make me a better leader; it prepared me to thrive in one of the most challenging creative industries. Happy Founders' Day, Kappa Sigma! |
